In 2010 I started this company from the middle of nowhere in rural country Victoria.
I had been working for one of the major banks in Australia for 12 years. Treating what I was doing like it was my business. Marketing myself in our local community, running different events, networking, building referral partners to get clients in the door and then providing them with an exceptional service once they became a client of mine.
Finally, in February of 2011 I resigned so I could run my business full time. Having one foot in my job and one foot in my business wasn’t the best formula for success! And so I resigned.
After18 mths of starting my business and struggling, my health started breaking down, my marriage was as close to over as it can get (with 3 kids that I was essentially raising on my own given that my husband was working on the family farm often leaving the house at 6am and not getting home till 8pm for 6 months of every year) it was tough.
I was so passionate about what I was doing though BUT It took me 18 months to nut out how to get more clients online.
I had been testing out how to use Facebook to get a trickle of clients through (posting offers, offering discovery sessions). I was travelling all over the country delivering IN PERSON as well as doing local workshops every couple of weeks…
BUT IT WAS UNSUSTAINBLE.
It was killing me. I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue and we all know how not-so-pretty that is.
Finally, in April 2012 I launched a Facebook campaign that worked (only took me 18 months to finally get it all working!). I made $30K in sales in June 2012. THIS WAS HUGE for me! In May 2012 I had made $5700.
I went from 0-$100K+ in 6 months. The 2012/2013 financial year rocked in at $779K in sales. The next year was $1.6M in sales. To date, I’ve done more than $4.5M in sales….
ALL OF THAT WAS DONE USING FACEBOOK AND ONLINE MARKETING.
ALL OF THOSE SALES WERE INTO ONLINE CONSULTING/TRAINING/MENTORING.
I know what being in your position can be like.
There are so many guru’s out there that it can be hard to know WHO to TRUST, who to listen to and what do to next. PLUS the amount of ‘information’ out there is so overwhelming that even when you DO find someone to follow and listen to, it lacks the PERSONALISATION that is more often than not, required, in order to get things moving.
I get asked all the time HOW I run my global business from the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. In fact, I was asked recently if living in a rural town put me at a disadvantage in business – and the big answer to that, is that I haven’t ALLOWED it to be a disadvantage , but rather a benefit.
